The University of North Carolina sponsors 28 varsity programs, including 15 women’s and 13 men’s sports. The Tar Heels have won 44 NCAA team championships in seven different sports including 21 in women’s soccer, more than any other women’s team in collegiate sports history!
Just behind the Women’s Soccer Team in total championships is the Men’s Basketball Team. The Men’s Basketball program has had great success under Hall of Fame coach, Roy Williams. Who is the most notable basketball player to come out of the UNC program, you might ask? That answer is simple, Michael Jordan.
